Sindh in Crisis: Governor Pledges Flood Relief and Unity
Karachi, August 19, 2024 – As the devastating floods continue to ravage parts of Sindh, Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has stepped up to address the crisis and outline the provincial government’s response.
Flood Devastation Hits Sindh
In a press conference at the Governor House, Tessori stated that the rains and floods have now started causing widespread destruction in Sindh, following the earlier devastation in Punjab. To provide immediate assistance, the Sindh government is dispatching 10,000 ration bags for the affected city of Sukkur. An emergency cell has also been set up at the Governor House to closely monitor the evolving situation.
Coordinating Relief Efforts
The Governor further emphasized that if the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is unable to control the situation, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will be brought in to take charge. Tessori offered PDMA’s assistance, stressing that the province must work together to tackle this challenge.
Celebrating Independence with Fervor
Tessori also reflected on the recent Independence Day celebrations at the Governor House, which saw the participation of over 500,000 enthusiastic citizens – exceeding the capacity of the 11-acre premises. He thanked the people of Karachi for their overwhelming attendance and expressed regret for those who could not enter.
Fireworks and Welcoming the Hero
The Governor highlighted the impressive fireworks display, orchestrated by experts from Dubai, as well as the provincial government’s support in welcoming the national hero, Arshad Nadeem. Tessori expressed gratitude for the warm reception accorded to Nadeem and praised the keen interest of the people in the ongoing projects under the Governor’s Initiative.
Calling for Unity and Cooperation
As the province grapples with the flood crisis, Tessori called upon all NGOs and businessmen in Karachi to stand with the affected communities and fully cooperate in relief efforts. He also requested the Sindh government to reduce power unit rates, mirroring the decision made by the Punjab government, to alleviate the economic burden on the people.
Tessori’s comprehensive address underscored the multifaceted challenges facing Sindh and the province’s efforts to provide relief and support to the citizens during these trying times.
