Psychiatry and Neurology Departments Receive Major Upgrades
KARACHI (Aug 19): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced that the provincial government, under the guidance of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has provided a new state-of-the-art Cyberknife system worth $4.1 million to the Patients’ Aid Foundation. This is in addition to the government covering the operational costs of the Cyberknife unit since 2018.
The Cyberknife is part of a series of upgrades to medical facilities at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also inaugurated two new buildings – the 120-bed Rashid Soorty Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Sciences and the 110-bed Saif-ul-Islam Department of Neurology & Stroke unit.
With these additions, JPMC now ranks among the world’s top 10 centers for cancer treatment with radiation, housing two Cyberknives and two Tomotherapy units. The Sindh government has also granted operational autonomy to the Patients’ Aid Foundation to oversee the Radiation Oncology Section.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to providing world-class cancer care within the country, particularly for Pakistani citizens who cannot afford costly treatments abroad. He also highlighted the government’s plans to strengthen public healthcare by ensuring all citizens have access to free medical treatment in government hospitals.
