POETRY INITIATIVE LAUNCHED TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

Date:

MIRPURKHAS: In a groundbreaking effort, Suajg Sansar Organization (SSO) and Pathfinder have joined forces to launch a poetry initiative aimed at raising awareness about climate change and gender-based violence (GBV) in Sindh.

The initiative, which kicked off with five-day training sessions in Mirpukhas, brought together community groups and trained them on Shah Latif’s iconic melodies of Surmeen (brave women). Renowned music trainer Ustad Ameer Ali led the sessions, which focused on climate change, GBV, and women’s health.

SSO CEO Mashooque Birahmani highlighted the devastating impact of climate change on women’s lives, citing extreme weather events and increased violence. Pathfinder’s Karim Mangi emphasized the collaboration’s goal of reducing GBV and improving women’s health through the Surmi Project.

Women’s leadership expert Um-E-Aiman noted that the initiative will groom women leaders to champion change and address climate change.

This innovative approach harnesses the power of poetry and music to convey critical messages and inspire action. With the support of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai’s rich poetry, this initiative promises to make a lasting impact in Sindh.
